Recording a project
What makes a recording "good"? Something that is authentic to its style- we all agree when something sounds good- it feels right, it is pleasing, it hits us in the gut... But how do you get the right sound? That is exactly the question that I've been asking myself over the last 20+ years. By listening, learning, and aquiring knowledge. By doing it a lot. And by staying on top of it. So, the first step I always take when someone inquires about a recording project at Studio 330 is to listen to their ideas. Once I understand what a client is trying to do I can develop a perspective on a project and develop a strategy on how to best capture the ideas at hand. It is absolutely crucial to have
fluent knowledge of the (rather complex) latest studio technology, including computer based recording, software synths, sequencing, digital editing, microphone techniques, etc.Likewise, one should have a good reading on musical styles and genres. There is nothing more frustrating for a classical musician to walk into a rock'n roll studio (and vice versa) where the outcome of the recording will not be what was desired...

Producing
To produce a recording project implies the involvement in the creative decision making. Some artists produce themselves- they make all decisions and choices by themselves, while a majority prefers to delegate some decision-making to a collaborator, or 'producer'. This person often wears different hats, and his/her role needs to be clarified before a project starts. In general, a producer keeps the overall direction in mind throughout the recording process, thereby freeing up the artist to focus more easily on the 'creative task' at hand. A producer also often is in touch with record companies to serve as a creative liaison, and to ensure that the end result is in line with expectations. Other responsibilities often include the budget, selection of side musicians, and guiding the artists towards their maximum potential. A good producer has to be patient, caring, and communicative. His/her role involves equal parts of music and psychology, humor and dedication.

Our philosophy is that a good production is the result of good creative chemistry of everybody involved. We therefor encourage interested parties to contact us and to discuss your ideas with us.

CD Duplication
We offer in-house CD duplication for small runs (up to 10 CDs). For larger runs we contract the job to Discmakers, a professional manufacturer of CDs. We can manage all aspects of duplication, printing, and design for our clients.

On-Location Recording
Another service we offer is to record on location. We have a portable setup that can be used for stereo or multi track recording. Please call us for details.
